Winner of the 2009 Cave Canem Poetry Prize for his manuscript, Missing you, Metropolis, Gary Jackson was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. He received his MFA in Poetry from the University of New Mexico in 2008 and his poems have appeared in Inscape, Magma, The Literary Bohemian and local chapbooks. Jackson’s Missing you, Metropolis is published by Greywolf Press and lauded by critics such as Yusef Komunyakaa, who writes that the book “embodies and underscores a voice uniquely shaped and tuned for the 21st century. Playful, jaunty and highly serious, the collection is gauged by a sophisticated heart. Pathos breathes within and slightly underneath the visual comedy, and this quality is the true genius of Missing you, Metropolis.”

Reboot

Due to the drop in attendance and surge of things in my life, Top City Poetry is postponed until a future date (sometime in 2010). I personally want to thank everyone for its success--both readers and listeners. It has been an incredible series. Please check every-so-often, as I will post when we will reboot the series. Thank you! ~Dennis

To find Lola's from Manhattan

Take 177 North to I-70 East. Follow I-70 until the Gage Blvd exit into Topeka. Keep right.

Following on the right, you will turn into Gage Blvd. Stay on the right side. Go past 6th street, past Gage Park, and after 10th Street is Fleming Place on the right. Turn into Fleming Place. Lola's is to the left of Dillon's.

Friday, November 14, 2008

If using I-70 from Lawrence

The exits from Lawrence are under construction, so the I-10/Lecompton exit is the best to take out of Lawrence. Keep on 6th Street going West until the turnoff to I-10 (toll will be 70 cents). Going back into Lawrence is no problem on the West Lawrence exit off of the highway (toll is 85 cents).
